Program Overview
A medical scribe is a person who assists healthcare professionals, such as doctors or nurses, by documenting patient interactions, medical histories, and clinical information in electronic health records. This allows healthcare providers to focus more on patient care and less on administrative tasks. Medical scribes are often trained to accurately transcribe medical terminology and maintain patient confidentiality.

Receiving Academic Credit Hours
All courses in the Medical Scribe Workforce Skills Award (WSA) program have the option to be converted to credit hours using a Petition to Record Credit form. All courses can also lead into the Del Mar College Accounting pathway including the Accounting Specialist, Associate of Applied Science.
Admissions Requirements
- Students must be 18 years of age
- High school diploma/GED not required
- Recommended minimum of 9th grade level math and reading knowledge
