Program Overview
The Diesel Engine Workforce Skills Award (WSA) prepares students for entry-level careers in the diesel engine and heavy equipment industry. This program provides foundational knowledge and hands-on training in diesel engine maintenance, repair, diagnostics, and safety practices.
Students will gain practical experience working with diesel engines, fuel systems, electrical components, and hydraulics, preparing them to support diesel technicians and mechanics in various industries, including transportation, construction, agriculture, and logistics.
This program is ideal for individuals seeking a career in diesel technology, offering a strong foundation for further technical training or immediate employment in the diesel service industry.

Receiving Academic Credit Hours
All courses in the Automotive Applied Technology Workforce Skills Award (WSA) program have the option to be converted to credit hours using a Petition to Record Credit form and all courses lead into the Del Mar College Architecture, Aviation and Automotive pathway including the Diesel Applied Technology, Associate of Applied Science.
Admissions Requirements
- Students must be 18 years of age
- High school diploma/GED not required
- Recommended minimum of 9th grade level math and reading knowledge
