Cheryl Sanders

From November 2011 to May 2021, Mrs. Sanders served as Dean of Student Engagement at Del Mar College and Retention and was responsible for providing administrative support for student success through student engagement and support services. The departments she led encourage and complement student learning by providing quality services and programs that enrich students’ growth.

Prior to her tenure at Del Mar College, Mrs. Sanders served in various Student Affairs positions at Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD), Fisk University (Nashville, TN), Rhodes College (Memphis, TN), and the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). 

Mrs. Sanders has over 24 years of progressively responsible experience and leadership working in student affairs at the higher education level that has focused on student engagement and success. A native of Mississippi, she received both her Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Psychology and her Master of Science degree in Counselor Education with an Emphasis in Higher Education Student Development from Mississippi State University.   Mrs. Sanders’ formal academic education and work experience in Student Affairs has been driven by a passion for students’ fundamental development.

When she is not assisting students, staff and faculty at Del Mar College, she enjoys being in the community doing whatever is needed to provide opportunities for others to grow and succeed. She has been involved in several local organizations as a volunteer and board member, including Beautify Corpus Christi Association,  the Junior League of Corpus Christi, Inc., the Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education Corpus Christi, the American Association of University Women Corpus Christi Branch and Dress for Success Corpus Christi.
