Application Instructions

Meet basic requirements

  • Go to www.applytexas.org and initiate your application with Del Mar College. If intending to apply with the Police Academy, indicate Basic Peace Officer Certification as your major.
  • Tuition fee for the program may be covered by Financial Aid, Veterans Services, and other applicable sources.  If you qualify, there are important and deadlines that you should to be aware of. Be informed by checking the website and/or making a call or visit to respective offices.

  • The Academy offers DAY classes only which runs Monday-Thursday, 8AM-5PM for a period of 23 weeks.  Whenever it becomes necessary, classes may be scheduled on a Friday. 
  • Within each academic year, the Del Mar College Regional Police Academy holds: (1) Spring Academy, which starts in January and opens application period in September; (2) Fall Academy, which starts in July and opens application period in March. Actual dates are published on this website shortly before application period opens.
  • A short interview by one of the Program Advisers is mandatory to initiate the application process.  To be interviewed, an applicant may either walk-in (when application period is open) or set a prior appointment based on an application schedule announced in this website.
  • When application period is open, applicants may “walk-in” for an interview between 8AM-11AM and 2PM-3PM, Mon-Thurs. No prior appointment is  necessary unless applicant prefers a schedule beyond this timeframe.  Location is at the West Campus, PS1 221 of the Public Safety Building. 
  • An application packet is given out for completion to applicants who merit positive interview results.

GET ACCEPTED AND REGISTERED


  • Program Director gives final acceptance to applicants whose application packets show compliance with TCOLE-established qualifications.
  • Accepted applicants are registered for class by the Program Office on a first-come-first-served basis. Compliance with DMC requirements for admission is necessary for an applicant to get registered.  Tuition fee deadlines are announced on the website.

Important Dates

fall academy starts in July 2019!

February 15 - Program Advisers to start holding interviews only on applicants with prior appointment.  To make an appointment, call (361) 698-2644.
March 4 - Program Advisers to start holding interviews on walk-in applicants within Monday-Thursday, 9AM-11AM and 2PM-3PM at Del Mar College (West Campus).  No prior appointment necessary.  Location is at the Police Academy Office, Rm. PS1 221 Public Safety Building, Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, Tx. 
May 30, 4PM - Deadline to submit completed application packet.  Submitted application packet will be verified as complete before it is accepted.
July 2, 9AM - Cadet Orientation, mandatory for those who receive the official acceptance notice from the Police Academy.
July 8, 8AM - First day of the Academy.  
Dec. 12 - Last day of the Academy
