The Viking Band Camp fee includes:

The Del Mar College Department of Music invites you to participate in the 2019 Viking Summer Band Camp. The VSBC centers on the comprehensive music education and artistic development of all students. We will provide opportunities for all students with at the very least one year's experience on their instrument to collaborate for five days of focused music making while making new friends and enjoying summertime activities. The VSBC will conclude with a series of chamber concerts and a full concert band performance for family and friends to enjoy free of charge! Early/Late Student Pick Up and Drop Off Arrangements

If needed, we can arrange for you to drop your student off at an earlier time that is convenient for you and we can arranged supervision if you need to pick up your student at a later time. Please let us know what we can do to help you out.

VIKING BAND CAMP AUDITIONS

All band camp participants will complete a simple audition for chair/part placement. This is not an audition to get into the camp. ALL students with at least one year of experience on their instrument will be welcomed at the camp. Auditions will be held on the morning of the first day of camp in the Del Mar College music building. Students will audition major scales up to 1 sharp and 1 flat.

MONDAY, JUNE 10

  • 8:00-9:00 Registration in the Wolfe Recital Hall (DMC Music Building)
  • 9:00-9:45 Camp opening meeting in the Wolfe Recital Hall (all students and staff)|
  • 9:45-11:00 Chair placement auditions: Warm Up Rooms: Wolfe Recital and Choir Room
  • 11:00-12:00 Report to the Richardson Performance Hall (RPH) for Part Assignments
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch in the Harvin Center
  • 12:45-2:00 Rehearsal #1 RPH
  • 2:00-2:20 Break! Bring money to purchase delicious snacks!
  • 2:20-2:35 Be seated and prepare to report to your elective Small Ensembles: Brass; Woodwind; Percussion; Jazz Band (the rooms will be assigned and announced later)
  • 2:35-4:00 Small Ensemble Rehearsals
  • 4:00- Report Back to the RPH for Wrap Up and Final Short Rehearsal # 2
  • 4:30 Camp Dismissed

TUESDAY, JUNE 11

  • 9:00-10:30 Rehearsal #3 RPH
  • 10:30-10:50 Break! Bring money to purchase delicious snacks!
  • 10:50-12:00 Rehearsal #4 RPH
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch in the Harvin Center
  • 12:45-2:00 Rehearsal #5 RPH
  • 2:00-2:15 Report to your elective Small Ensembles
  • 2:15- 3:15 Small Ensemble rehearsal
  • 3:15 - 4:30 Ice Cream Social and Dance in Band Hall – FC 189
  • 4:30 Camp Dismissed

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12

  • 9:00-10:30 Rehearsal #6 RPH
  • 10:30-10:50 Break! Bring money to purchase delicious snacks!
  • 10:50-12:00 Rehearsal #7 RPH
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch in the Harvin Center then report back to RPH
  • 12:45-2:30 Elective Small Ensemble
  • 2:30-4:30 Movie Party! Large rehearsal hall in music building: Popcorn, Pickles, Candy and Soft Drinks Provided!
  • 4:30 Camp Dismissed

THURSDAY, JUNE 13

  • 9:00-10:30 Rehearsal #8 RPH
  • 10:30-12:00 Brass, and Woodwind Small Ensembles report to RPH for on-stage rehearsal. You will split the 90 minute rehearsal Jazz Band and Percussion will report to their regular rooms for their Small Ensemble rehearsal.
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch in the Harvin Center
  • 12:45 -2:45 Jazz Band and Percussion report to RPH for on-stage rehearsal. All other Small Ensembles report to their regular rooms for final rehearsal. (You have 2 hours left)
  • 2:45-3:00 All ensemble report to the RPH for Final Small Ensemble Concerts
  • 3:00-4:30 Small Ensemble Concerts Begin at 3:00 (Free to public)
    Woodwinds First, Brass Second, Percussion Ensemble Third, and Jazz Band Fourth
  • 4:30 Camp Dismissed

FRIDAY, JUNE 14

  • 9:00-10:30 Rehearsal #9 in the RPH
  • 10:30-10:45 Break: bring your own snacks or bring money to purchase snacks
  • 10:45-12:00 Rehearsal #10 Richardson Performance Hall
  • 12:00-12:45 Lunch in the Harvin Center
  • 12:45-1:45 Final Rehearsal in the Richardson Performance Hall
  • 1:45-2:00 Break
  • 2:00-3:00 Final Concert Begins at 2 P.M. (Free to Public)

WHAT TO WEAR FOR THE SMALL ENSEMBLE CONCERT AND THE FULL BAND CONCERT:
**Small Ensemble Recital/Concert: Wear Your Band Camp T-Shirts!!
**Friday Full Band Concert: Wear Black and White or As Close to it as Possible.
