Department of Allied Health
The Allied Health Department offers a variety of health science programs to meet the needs of today's local and national industries by providing quality workforce training and education.
The curriculum in each program uses extensive "hands on" clinical experiences to support theory and problem solving which is extremely relevant to industry needs.
Students will receive a variety of extensive training in (but not limited to) the following:
- Understanding medical concepts and maintaining medical records
- Performing routine clinical laboratory tests as the primary analyst
- Preventing deficits and/or improving functions of daily living
- Providing healthcare and medications to patients in a hospital or retail setting
- Implementing treatment programs
- Treatment of individuals with breathing disorders
- Care of patients in the operating room
The Allied Health Department provides programs of study leading to:
- A Certificate and/or
- An Associate in Applied Science degree
- Possible transferability to a university
- College-level occupational programs to meet the needs of students who wish to qualify for immediate employment upon graduation
Applicants must be accepted into the Allied Health programs. Any or all of the general education courses listed in the program curriculums may be taken prior to admission to the program.
In addition to the general admission requirements of the College, students planning to enter any of the Allied Health programs must fulfill the program specific admission criteria in order to be considered for admission into the program. The applicant must also complete the following:
- Submit a program application and all required admission documentation by the program deadline
- Submit all college transcripts showing evidence of completion of prerequisite courses, or, depending on program, current enrollment in prerequisite courses
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.0
- Meet with a program advisor
After program acceptance and prior to the first class day, the student must submit a completed physical examination which includes the complete Hepatitis B series, a current college transcript and a current card of completion in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for Health Care Providers which must be maintained throughout the program.
Upon enrollment, the student must pass a background check and drug screen test, at student's expense, for security clearance and continued enrollment in the program.
