Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Information
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Information
Overview
When students, faculty or staff need materials that the library does not own or provide access to, DMC Libraries will request the item through InterLibrary Loan (ILL).
Students, staff or faculty need a current validated DMC ID to request an ILL.
ILL allows patrons to borrow books or receive scanned articles from libraries nationwide.
Some materials that may not be available through ILL:
- Audio-visual materials
- Rare books
- Reference items
- Dissertations
To request ILL materials:
Check with Reference staff to ensure that DMC Libraries does not own it.
Complete the appropriate form below:
A separate form must be submitted for each item requested or email ill@delmar.edu.
Individuals interested in borrowing through ILL who may need special accommodations may contact Access Services, ILL Office by phone at 361-698-2136 or by email at ill@delmar.edu.
Turn Around Time
ILL books can take from 2-3 weeks or longer to arrive.
Articles will not take as long as books, but there is still a delay in the process as we identify a lender and they respond with the item.
Notification
Patrons will be notified when ILL materials have arrived. If an article arrives electronically, we will send an email with the attachment.
Failure to pick up an ILL
ILL materials requested by students will be held for seven days. If no attempt is made to pick up the requested item(s), the library will charge the student $5.00 for requesting and not picking up the item.
ILL GUIDELINES FOR DISTANCE EDUCATION AND DUAL ENROLLMENT STUDENTS
Online distance education students and students taking courses off-campus have access to ILL materials. Students must follow all procedures stated above. DMC libraries will mail physical resources to students who meet the following criteria:
- Students must be taking only online, off-campus, or off-campus dual credit courses.
- Students must reside outside of the city limits of Corpus Christi.
The checkout period for physical items mailed to distance education or dual credit students will be extended by one week to account for transit time. Library fines for overdue or lost materials will apply to items sent via mail. The student is responsible for mailing items back to the DMC libraries.
