- Served in education for 35 years as a teacher, instructional supervisor, assistant principal and principal at the elementary and secondary levels
- Retired from the profession in 2003; after retirement worked as a principal at McCraw Junior High School in Mathis, TX., as an assistant principal at West Oso High School in Corpus Christi, and as an educational consultant
- Served as General Chair for Feria de las Flores Scholarship Program for twelve years, the Christmas Posada Program for five years, and coordinated several cultural events in Corpus Christi
- Active memberships include the Hispanic Women's Network of Texas, MANA, a national Latina organization, LULAC Council #1, Westside Business Association, and the Association of Community College Trustees
