On January 11, 2021, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board replaced the college placement exam TSIA with a new version called TSIA2. The older version of TSIA will no longer be available and anybody testing for TSIA will be testing under the new TSIA 2.0 version. If you have taken the previous TSIA Assessment, your test scores are valid for a period of 5 years from the date of testing.
Pricing for the TSIA2 is as follows:
ELAR – $15.00
MATH - $15.00
Entire TSIA2 - $30.00
Payment for TSIA2 can be done using your debit or credit card when you register online.
NO REFUNDS ARE ISSUED FOR TSI.
Examinees are allowed to bring only items allowed by individual exams into the Testing Labs. Examinees may NOT bring any prohibited items into the Testing Labs, including but not limited to: backpacks, purses, wallets, cell phones, electronic devices, watches, anything on the wrists, food/drink, any unauthorized testing aid, etc.
Examinees will be given a locker measuring 18(L) x 12(W) x 12(H) and key to place prohibited items. Items that do not fit into the locker need to be returned to the examinee's car, home or other secure area. Del Mar College is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
This test will determine which classes you will be required to take during your first and subsequent semesters at Del Mar College. Your scores will determine if you will be advised into mandatory developmental courses before beginning college level courses in math, reading, and writing.
It is very important that you try your best in order to be placed accurately.
The entire TSIA2 exam is administered on the computer. The TSIA2 exam is a computer adaptive exam, which means test questions are based on your response to the previous question. Questions will either increase or decrease in difficulty depending on how you respond. Because the exam is computer adaptive, once you answer a test question, you may not go back to change an answer. You may also be given an additional diagnostic exam in a particular subject to provide more detailed placement information.
A valid photo ID, such as an unexpired driver's license, student ID or passport is required to test.
The test is untimed, but you should leave enough time to finish all sections of the exam. Each section can take up to two hours.
