About Del Mar College
Del Mar College is the premier source for quality, affordable higher education and workforce training in the Texas Coastal Bend. Serving five South Texas counties, most of our facilities are a stone’s throw from Corpus Christi Bay. Over 88 percent of our students are from Corpus Christi and the surrounding area.
In the last academic year, we served about 23,200 students; this includes traditional credit courses and Continuing Education courses, which include skilled workforce training. We offer programs in over 53 university transfer majors and more than 144 occupational fields.
Affordability is a point of pride for Del Mar College. For an in-district student, a 12-hour semester costs about one-third the cost of tuition at area universities.
We’re also proud to be a Title V Hispanic-Serving Institution, a designation that reflects the population of the communities we serve. In fact, nearly 70 percent of our students are Hispanic.
The average age of our students is 24, and approximately 26 percent of our students are enrolled in early college, or dual credit, programs. Our dual credit programs are robust, involving partnerships with 36 high schools throughout our service area.
Another distinguishing feature we’re proud of is our small class sizes, which allow us to keep a low student-to-faculty ratio. This, along with our affordability, is at the heart of our mission and vision.
Del Mar College is growing along with the population of our service area. A voter-approved bond in 2016 enabled us to begin construction on a new campus on the Southside of Corpus Christi. Scheduled for completion in 2022, this state-of-the-art campus will house some of our signature programs, such as architecture, biosciences and culinary arts. These are in-demand programs that will prepare our students for rewarding careers in growing industries.
Like all community colleges across the state, Del Mar College offers life-changing educational opportunities for our students. In fact, community colleges are the largest sector of higher education in Texas, serving over 47 percent of students.
