Rebuild Texas students working on a carpentry project

Del Mar College is a model institution for providing skilled workforce training that leads to career opportunities and supports a strong state economy. For example, many of our petrochemical industry-related programs are held in high regard by local industries who hire our graduates.

We have many fruitful partnerships as a result, with industries providing significant donations and scholarships that enable us to bolster advanced training with state-of-the-art equipment in programs like Process Technology, Industrial Instrumentation and others.

The petroleum processing pilot plant on our West Campus is a prime example of customized training equipment made possible by industry partnership. This facility accurately simulates the work processes involved in petroleum distillation.

Rebuild Texas Carpentry Skills Training

Del Mar College’s Rebuild Texas Carpentry Skills Training Program is another example of skilled workforce training that leads to employment. Launched in Spring 2019, Rebuild Texas is designed to help the Coastal Bend rebuild after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey by training area residents to become qualified carpenters free of charge.

Initially funded by an $879,000 Rebuild Texas Fund grant, the 10-week program has been offered at no cost in Corpus Christi, Ingleside, Refugio, Rockport and Sinton. Nearly 300 students have completed the program.

Last November, Del Mar College was named by Governor Greg Abbott an award winner in the 37th annual Governor’s Volunteer Awards, receiving the 2020 Higher Education Community Impact – Community College Award for the Rebuild Texas Program.
