Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research materials that are freely available and openly licensed, allowing anyone to use, adapt, and redistribute them with few or no restrictions. Examples include textbooks, course readings, and other learning content, as well as tools like software and platforms that support learning.

Open Educational Resources are adopted for several reasons including affordability, access to material on the first day, and can better meet accessibility requirements.

Adopting, adapting, and creating are all different avenues of OERs. Adopting OER is selecting currently available content available in various OER repositories. Adapting OER means you have selected currently available content and have changed it to suit your needs. The purpose of the stipend is to create original content suitable to your course needs.

Del Mar College has incentivized the creation of OER material through a stipend available during the 2024-25 academic year. Faculty may work independently or collaboratively to receive the stipend.

Stipends vary depending on the resource type.

See guidelines and application available on the DMC SharePoint page.
