Internships
Internships
Students need 12 credit hours of internship. This can be accomplished by taking three of the 4-hour courses or two of the 6-hour courses. No mixing of internship courses and enrollment is done by the LTCA instructors only to ensure it is the correct internship. The internship is a minimum of 1,000 hours. A minimum of 500 of the 1,000 hours must be during traditional working hours, no more than 40 hours a week. Completion of the education plan allows a student to graduate with an Advanced Certificate in Long Term Care Administration. This will allow the student to petition the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) to take the state and national examinations for Nursing Home Administrator.
Students are to use DADS-certified preceptors that are located within their geographical region. It is the student's responsibility to seek out a preceptor and have their acceptance to monitor the student prior to seeking enrollment in the internship courses. The link below is the DADS database and will allow you to search for certified preceptors within your locale.
This program utilized the DADS AIT forms that are submitted each assignment period so that credit can be given.
