Associate of Science in Computer Programming
This program is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. Our curriculum provides a strong foundation in essential subjects, including:
- Programming Fundamentals I, II, and III (CS1, CS2, CS3)
- Mathematics courses, such as Calculus I and Discrete Mathematics
- Science courses, including General Inorganic Chemistry I and II
With these courses, you'll be prepared to continue your education at the Bachelor's, Master's, or even Doctoral level. Graduates of this program are equipped to pursue careers in software design, programming, software engineering, or teaching at secondary and post-secondary levels.
Associate of Applied Science in Computer Programming (Data Science Workforce)
For students looking to enter the workforce in just two years, the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Computer Programming provides specialized training for local job opportunities. Developed in collaboration with industry leaders in the Coastal Bend, this program offers three tracks focused on high-demand skills:
- GeoAI: Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Data Science
- Web Development
These tracks give you hands-on experience, preparing you for roles that require cutting-edge technology expertise. While not specifically designed to transfer, this degree can be transferred into a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS/BAAS) degree at a four-year college or university if the student wants to continue on and get a Bachelor's degree at some point after completion.
Advance Your Career with Stackable Credentials
In addition to the AAS degree, Del Mar College offers stackable credentials that allow you to earn valuable certifications as you work toward your degree. This pathway is perfect for employed students or those seeking to enhance their qualifications while continuing their studies. You can move through three sequential stages:
- Occupational Skills Award – Begin by earning this entry-level credential to gain foundational programming skills and immediate job-ready qualifications.
- Certificate – Build upon the award by earning a certificate that deepens your knowledge in specialized areas such as web development, data science, or artificial intelligence.
- Associate of Applied Science in Computer Programming – Complete the AAS degree and refine your expertise, positioning yourself for high-demand careers in tech.
This flexible and practical approach enables you to progress through each stage at your own pace, stacking credentials that increase your employability while you complete the full degree program.
