AM I QUALIFIED TO APPLY?
- Meeting the basic qualifications for Basic Peace Officer, as established by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is a primary requirement when applying to the Police Academy. In an interview session, applicant has the opportunity to ask the Program Director questions to clarify if qualifications are met or otherwise.
WHAT IS MY TIMELINE?
- March is when application period opens for Summer II-Fall academy. September is when open application period starts for the Spring academy. Actual dates are published on the website at least a week before application period opens.
- 23-week-DAY Academy is offered every Spring and Summer II-Fall semester. Class schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM for a period of 23 weeks (6 months).
- 42-week-NIGHT Academy is offered in the Spring semester and only if minimum number of students is met. Class schedule is Monday - Thursday, 5:30 PM - 9:30 PM and every other Saturday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM for 42 weeks, February-December (10 months).
how do i get started?
- A 15-minute interview with the Program Director is the first step in the Police Academy application process. Interview is held over the phone and by appointment only. Check the published schedule here to find the link to request for an interview appointment, as well important dates in the application process. Take note however, that interviews are held during open application period only.
- Application process involves submitting a completed application packet. Details about the application packet will be discussed with you during the interview.
- Simultaneous with your application with the Police Academy, proceed with your application with Del Mar College at www.goapplytexas.org. For Police Academy, the major to declare is Basic Peace Officer Certification (BAPO.CER). Here you find helpful information on becoming a student of Del Mar College.
- Depending on eligibility, tuition fee for the program may be through Financial Aid, Veterans Services, Del Mar Foundation, and other assistance that may be available. Contact respective offices for more specific details. Tuition fee deadlines are found in the academic calendar.
How do i get ACCEPTED AND REGISTERED?
- Getting accepted into the program would require final approval of the submitted application packet by the Program Director.
- Compliance with college admission requirements is likewise necessary to proceed with registration.
