The Del Mar College Dental Hygiene clinic offers services to the community at no charge. Services include:

    • Medical history review
    • Blood pressure screening
    • Intra-oral examination
    • Dental preliminary assessment
    • Periodontal assessment
    • Dental hygiene education
    • Oral cancer screening

    • Dental hygiene therapy
    • Dental sealants (a thin plastic coating placed on the chewing surfaces of teeth to help prevent decay)
    1. All procedures performed by students are under the supervision of instructors, and usually require more than one visit.
    2. Treatment does not include a comprehensive dental examination. A licensed dentist should be seen at regular intervals.
    3. Students are required to fulfill a certain number of hours of instruction in the Dental Hygiene Clinic and missed or broken appointments could affect a student's ability to complete semester requirements.
    4. Patients are selected for treatment based on meeting the educational and clinical requirements of students. Final selection of patients will be made by Del Mar College. Application for treatment does not ensure treatment.
    5. Cleaning appointments involve several 3 hour long appointments, depending on the type of cleaning the individual requires.  (Note: Appointments are set for 3 hours between 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm.)
    6. New patients begin with a 30-minute screening to see what type of cleaning will be needed and to see if the patient meets the educational and health requirements to qualify for treatment in our clinic. (Note: This appointment is not the actual cleaning appointment.) After the patient is qualified, a student dental hygienist may be assigned to the patient case and will contact the patient to schedule an appointment. To schedule for a Qualifying Appointment, call (361) 698-2854.
