Dr. Beth Lewis

Beth LewisDr. Beth Lewis serves as the College’s Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer. She has close to 30 years of higher education instruction and administrative experience.

“Dr. Beth Lewis brings a breadth of academic expertise and quality leadership to this top instructional and campus operations position at the College,” said President Mark Escamilla of her hire in August 2016. “Her ability to understand classroom needs and lead innovative ventures will be an asset to the vision and momentum of the College’s Executive Team.”

Dr. Lewis’ direct reports include seven Deans, the Chief Security Officer, three Faculty Coordinators, and two support staff. These reporting areas include the College’s 17 academic departments, continuing education and off-campus programs, workforce programs and corporate services, institutional effectiveness and assessment, learning resources, and environmental safety and health. In addition to serving as the Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Lewis also serves as the institutional liaison for the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Prior to beginning her tenure at the College, Dr. Lewis served as President of College of the Mainland in Texas City for three years. She was also formerly the founding Vice President of Academic Affairs at Northeast Lakeview College in San Antonio, and Dean of Off-Campus Programs and of Academic Affairs at Blinn College in Brenham.

Dr. Lewis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Arts degree in English, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Sam Houston State University. She brings credentials as a Certified Mediator in Workplace Conflict, in Crisis Leadership in Higher Education from Harvard University and for Incident Command Systems from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA.

She served as the District Director of New Program Development and Evaluation for North Harris Montgomery Community College in Houston. Her classroom teaching includes serving as a full-time faculty member in English for two community colleges and as an adjunct faculty member of English and in the Educational Leadership Doctorate Program at Sam Houston State University.

On a national level, Dr. Lewis served a three-year term on the American Association of Community College’s (AACC) Commission on Economic and Workforce Development, as one term representing Texas on the Board of Directors for the Southern Association of Colleges with Associate Degrees.

Dr. Lewis earned a National Institute of Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award. She served two years as an Honorary Commander for the 902nd Mission Support Group at Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. She was also named an Executive Fellow in Viticulture and Oenology by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for her expertise studying grapes and winemaking.
