Jason Coppedge

Jason CoppedgePrior to attending Delmar College I had been working in the oil industry as an offshore production operator. When the economy started getting bad in 2009, I lost my job and started working odd jobs around town to make ends meet. After a few years of not being able to find permanent employment I decided to look at other options other than going back offshore. That's when I realized the numerous opportunities that were available to individuals with a commercial drivers license. So I checked around and started hearing very good things about the Transportation Services Department at Delmar College. So, after some thought, I decided to enter the program in late 2011. While in the program, I had a lot of fun while learning the curriculum and learning to drive. The staff and instructors were very knowledgeable about the testing and driving aspects of the course, but they were also very helpful in regards to any questions I had about the trucking industry. I can tell you now that deciding to enter the program was the best decision I have ever made. After graduation I was immediately employed with Kemco Resources. I obtained my X endorsement and have been hauling crude oil for Kemco. The pay scale for drivers is outstanding and I love doing it! I would recommend this program to anyone who is interested. The only thing I regret is not doing it sooner.

Richard Shepperd

Richard ShepperdPrior to taking truck driver training at Del Mar College, my career had been spent working in industry as a draftsman, industry trainer, and in public education, both at the K-12 level and the post-secondary level. I held a commercial driver's license for about twenty years, (1969-1990) but only drove commercial vehicles occasionally during this time period.

Having been a student at Del Mar College prior to taking truck driver training, I was aware of the college's variety of programs and excellent reputation. I was very pleased when I got accepted into the Del Mar College Truck Driver Training, as this was my first choice. My experience in the program exceeded my expectations. The program was extremely rigorous and challenging, but the instructors were very expert in keeping my expectations of success alive.

The instructors I had in class and on the driving range were professional in their relationships with the students and with each other. The classroom and driving experiences were focused at all times. I credit the instructors and the administration on the excellent instructional planning and time management. The office staff was available to expertly facilitate the program's administrative, job placement, and Department of Transportation requirements. The communication among the staff, instructors, and students was exemplary.

I applied for and was awarded a grant from the Del Mar Foundation that was a significant benefit in my able to fund the training. The remainder of the tuition and fees were funded from my personal account. I have been assured from one prospective employer that the tuition portion funded from my personal account would be reimbursed in full after meeting certain employment longevity requirements .

If one is serious about entering the transportation field as a truck driver, I enthusiastically recommend Del Mar Transportation Traininig Services' Truck Driver Training. This program is totally focused toward working for the career success of of it's students.
