Frequently Asked Questions

What is the HEERF III grant?

The Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund III (HEERF III) is authorized by the American Rescue Plan (ARP), Public Law 117-2. It was signed into law on March 11, 2021, and provides $39.6 billion in support to institutions of higher education to serve students and ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic. DMC’s HEERF III grant allocation is $9.6 million. One hundred percent of this allocation is used to fund the College’s HEERF III grant program.

HEERF III grants can be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, healthcare or childcare. You do not have to pay back funds you receive from the HEERF III grant.

Who is eligible to receive a HEERF III grant?

HEERF III grants are available to DMC students who were enrolled in at least one credit-hour or one Continuing Education (CE) class on or after March 13, 2020. Grant awards are dependent upon available funds.

How much can I receive from the HEERF III grant?

You may receive up to $800 per semester/quarter.

I have a balance on my DMC tuition account. If I am awarded this grant, will the balance be deducted?

No. The entire amount of the grant will be disbursed to you through your refund preference on file with the DMC Business Office. If you would like this amount applied to a current or previous balance that was incurred on or after March 13, 2020, please indicate this on question No. 14 on the HEERF III Emergency Student Aid Request.
