What is the Add a Free Class campaign?

DMC’s Add a Free Class campaign provides students an additional class during alternative terms free of charge in the Spring 2022 semester. For eligible students, this is a FREE CLASS funded by federal HEERF III Emergency Student Aid funds. Qualifying alternative terms are any classes that start on or after Jan. 24, 2022 in the Spring 2022 semester:

  • 15 weeks
  • 8-weeks Session II
  • 5 weeks
  • 6 weeks
  • 7 weeks
  • Mini courses
  • Maymester

Please note: Alternative terms are subject to availability.

Who is eligible for Add a Free Class?

DMC students are eligible for Add a Free Class if they’re enrolled in one 3- or 4-hour course during the regular 16 weeks or 8-weeks Session I in Spring 2022. Eligible students are automatically awarded a free class during one of the alternative terms described above by completing the Add a Free Class/HEERF III Emergency Aid Request.

Who is not eligible for this program?

  • Dual credit or early college students who are already taking classes at a reduced rate.
  • Some fire and police cadet students in which municipalities are paying for their courses. 

How do I get started?

  • Step 1: Register for at least one 3- or 4-hour course during the regular 16 weeks or 8-weeks Session I in Spring 2022. View class schedules on WebDMC.
  • Step 2: Register for a free class in an alternative term: 15 weeks, 8-weeks Session II, 5 weeks, 6 weeks, 7 weeks, mini courses and Maymester. View class schedules on WebDMC.
  • Step 3: Complete the Add a Free Class/HEERF III Emergency Aid Request. If you’re eligible, DMC will automatically apply HEERF III funds to pay for your free class.

Who do I contact if I need help selecting my classes?

If I receive a free class, can I still receive additional HEERF III emergency aid?

Yes. Please complete the Add a Free Class/HEERF III Emergency Aid Request to apply for HEERF III funds.

If I do not register for a free class, can I still receive HEERF III emergency aid?

For those who do not enroll in Add a Free Class, you may still be eligible for HEERF III emergency aid. We encourage you to complete the Add a Free Class/HEERF III Emergency Aid Request to determine your eligibility.

Remember, you may be eligible for additional funding resources whether or not you receive Add a Free Class/HEERF III funds.

  • For students taking credit classes: If you are enrolled in at least one credit-hour for the current or upcoming semester, we highly encourage you to complete a financial aid application to qualify for additional financial assistance*: 

*Students can be awarded Add a Free Class/HEERF III funds without submitting a FAFSA application.
 

I am undocumented and/or a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) student. Am I eligible for Add a Free Class?

You may be eligible for Add a Free Class by completing the Add a Free Class/HEERF III Emergency Aid Request.

How will I know if I was awarded an Add a Free Class/HEERF III grant to pay for my free class?

A notification will be sent to your DMC email account. In addition, your WebDMC Financial Aid Checklist will be updated with a HEERF III award.

I am enrolled at DMC and another college/university. Can I request Add a Free Class/HEERF III grants from both schools?

You can request grants from both schools. While you may receive a grant from DMC, you must also contact the financial aid office at your other school to see if you qualify for their HEERF III grant program.
