Welcome to New Student Orientation

Viking New Student Orientation is designed to help you make a successful transition into Del Mar College. The activities and workshops are designed to help first-time students get acquainted with college life at DMC. Get involved and excited about The Viking Orientation Experience!

Orientation is mandatory for First Time in College Students. Your registration hold will not be removed until you attend your orientation session or complete online orientation.

New Student Orientation is being held in person on Heritage Campus for students.

  • To attend an on-campus orientation:, fill out the online form.
    • Orientation will be held on the following dates on the Heritage Campus:
      June 13
      July 18
      July 25
      August 3
  • Online orientation is not currently available. Please check back for updates.

Once you complete orientation, you can contact your Academic Advisor in the department of your major to complete your registration for classes.

    Complete Before Orientation

    The following are all items that you should complete before attending your orientation session:

    1. Set up DMC Access
      1. Make sure you have access set up for all of your important DMC accounts, including your WebDMC Student Portal and DMC Student Email. For more information and set up assistance, please contact the Viking Helpdesk at (361) 698-2330.
      2. Check your DMC Student Email Daily!
    2. Sign into your WebDMC Account to view and clear registration holds (found in WebDMC under “Notifications”). Holds may include:
      1. Meningitis Vaccination – All new incoming students who are 21 years of age or younger will need to show proof of the Bacterial Meningitis vaccination. Submit your vaccination record to enroll@delmar.edu.
      2. TSI Assessment – New students are required to take the TSI Assessment, unless they meet approved exemptions. If you need to register for the TSI, view the exemptions, or request your scores, click here.
      3. Request Final Transcripts – First-time students preparing to enroll in college should follow these transcript submission instructions.
      4. Orientation Hold – this will be removed upon your attendance at New Student Orientation.
    3. Complete the Career Assessment
      1. Explore careers & majors using Career Coach, our free career assessment tool.
    4. Schedule Advising Appointment (if eligible)
      1. If you have completed your admissions file, a separate email will be sent to you with a link to schedule your advising appointment for the day of your orientation.
      2. If you are not able to complete your admissions file, no worries! You can schedule your advising appointment for a later date by visiting delmar.edu/advisors.
    5. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid
      1. The FAFSA can be found online at studentaid.gov.
      2. TASFA is also available for a student who is not a U.S. citizen but who is classified as a Texas resident.
    6. Change of Major Requests
      1. To view your major, log into WebDMC, click on Academics, then Degree Plan. Once you submit the form, a copy of your degree plan & major will be emailed to you.
      2. If you would like to change your major, please do so by submitting the Change of Major form. It is recommended to complete this process two weeks before your orientation.

    Complete at Orientation

    At your New Student Orientation, you can expect to:

    1. Activate & learn more about your DMC accounts, including your WebDMC Student Portal and DMC Student Email.
    2. Hear from campus instructors on what you can expect in class.
    3. Learn about campus services, rights & responsibilities, campus safety, and more!
    4. Register for Classes
      1. If you have completed your admissions file, you will have an opportunity to meet with your advisor and register for classes.
    5. Fill out FERPA form if you would like Del Mar to release information to your parent or guardian.
    6. Get your DMC ID Card
      1. If you complete registration at orientation, you will be able to obtain your DMC ID card (pictures will be taken on-site!).

    1. How do I cancel/reschedule?
      Call the Office of Student Leadership & Campus Life at (361) 698-1247.
    2. How do I change my major before attending orientation?
      Complete the Change of Major form with the Registrar’s Office. It is recommended to complete this form two weeks prior to orientation.
    3. Where can I park?
      Parking is free at Del Mar College! Orientation will be held at the Richardson Auditorium on the Heritage Campus, view our campus map to find parking lots near there.
    4. What if I need special accommodations?
      Accommodations requests are available during your orientation registration process. However, you are also welcome to contact the Student Leadership & Campus Life Office at (361) 698-1247.
    5. Can my family or supporters attend orientation and how do I add them?
      Absolutely! You are able to bring one family member or support who wants to support you in your transition to Del Mar College. Encourage them to attend the Family & Supporter Orientation sessions as some portions of orientation are planned for you, separate from your supporter, while others are planned for you and your supporter to experience together. There is no cost for your guest to attend.
    6. What if I cannot attend in-person?
      All incoming first-time in college students are required to attend orientation. If you are not able to attend in-person, we do offer a virtual option. Students who need to complete orientation online should contact the Student Leadership & Campus Life Office at (361) 698-1247.
