    Important Facts About the Student Emergency Scholarship:

    • Minimum required cumulative Grade Point Average is 2.0.
    • Processing of emergency applications often takes five to seven working days.
    • Emergency scholarships are available to help students who experience an unexpected and unforeseen circumstance which jeopardizes their ability to pay for their education.
    • Emergency funds are limited and availability varies from semester to semester.
    • Financial Aid funds cannot be duplicated through emergency scholarships. If your Financial Aid funds are expected, but not before the tuition deadline would keep you from enrolling in your classes, you may be required to repay any Emergency Funds you receive through the Emergency Scholarship.
    • Foundation Emergency Scholarships require students to apply for Financial Aid (www.fafsa.ed.gov) prior to completing the emergency scholarship application.
    • Processing your application begins when the complete application packet has been submitted to the Office of Development/Foundation located at DMC Center for Economic Development, Room 133, 3209 S. Staples (S. Staples and Kostoryz). For the status of your application, contact the Office of Development/Foundation at 361-698-1317.

    Important Questions and Answers about the Student Emergency Scholarship

    Q: I missed the Del Mar College Foundation scholarship application deadline. I didn’t think I’d need a scholarship, but my situation has changed and I’m suddenly out of funds. Can you help me?
    Possibly, but the help is not immediate. All students are able to apply for a Student Emergency Scholarship at any time, but it takes 5 to 7 days for the Scholarships team to review the application package and determine eligibility. Not all students who apply are eligible. The Student Emergency Scholarship may be awarded to a student one time only.

    Q: How soon must I complete and turn in my Del Mar College Foundation, Student Emergency Scholarship application?
    There is no deadline for the Student Emergency Scholarship. However, determination of eligibility is not immediate. It takes 5 to 7 days for the Scholarships team to review the application package and determine eligibility. Not all students who apply are eligible.

    Q: I need help with funding for Summer I and/or II courses. Can I apply for summer scholarships from Del Mar College Foundation?
    The only Del Mar College Foundation scholarship available for any of the summer courses is the Student Emergency Scholarship. Please be aware that it takes 5 to 7 days for the Scholarships team to review the application package and determine eligibility. Not all students who apply are eligible. As well, please remember that the Student Emergency Scholarship may be awarded to a student one time only.

    Q: I’m a Dual Credit student. Is there a Del Mar College Foundation scholarship that can help me pay for my college courses, even if I miss the January 15th through April 30th application window?
    Yes. Even if dual credit students miss applying for regular DMC Scholarships between January 15th and April 30th of each year, they may apply for a Student Emergency Scholarship like any other Del Mar College student. Please be aware that it takes 5 to 7 days for the Scholarships team to review the application package and determine eligibility. Not all students who apply are eligible. As well, please remember that the Student Emergency Scholarship may be awarded to a student one time only.
