Admission Qualifications

BASIC PEACE OFFICER CERTIFICATION (Police Academy)

Basic qualifications (below listed), as established by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) should be met for applicant to get accepted into the Police Academy. To apply for the Basic Peace Officer Certification (BPOC) Program, an should first meet with a Program Adviser as well as submit a complete application packet within schedule.
  • United States citizen.
  • 21 years of age before graduation from the Academy.
  • Meet the minimum educational requirements for Peace Officers Training by possessing a high school diploma, or a high school equivalency certificate (G.E.D.).
  • Have not been discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions.
  • Have not had a TCOLE license revoked, denied or surrendered, nor are such proceedings currently in place.
  • Have not violated any TCOLE rule or provision of Occupations Code, Chapter 1701.
  • Have not ever been and not currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above a grade of Class B Misdemeanor within the last ten years.
  • Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense.
  • Never been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor, or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years.
  • Never been convicted of any family violence offense.
  • Not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.
  • Not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.
  • Never been convicted of, pled guilty to, or received court-ordered probation, nor have received a deferred, adjudicated, or un-adjudicated sentence for any felony offense.
  • Have been tested and show no trace of drug dependency or illegal drug use.
  • Have been examined by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist and been declared to be in satisfactory psychological and emotional health for training and licensure.
  • Be able to demonstrate physical fitness according to standards.

BASIC COUNTY Corrections COURSE (jail school)

Basic qualifications (below listed), as established by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) should be met in order to get accepted into the Jail School. To apply for the Basic County Corrections Course (BCCC), an applicant should first meet with a Program Adviser and secondly, submit a complete application packet within schedule.
  • United States citizen.
  • Meet the minimum educational requirements for Jailers by possessing a high school diploma, or a high school equivalency certificate (G.E.D.).
  • Have not ever been and not currently on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above a grade of Class B Misdemeanor within the last ten years.
  • Not currently under indictment for any criminal offense.
  • Never been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor, or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten (10) years.
  • Never been convicted of any family violence offense.
  • Not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.
  • Not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.
