Program Overview

The Computer Science, Engineering and Advanced Technology Department at Del Mar College offers an Associate in Science degree in Computer Information Systems (CIS). This program is intended for those students who ultimately seek a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in CIS at upper-level colleges and universities. Our CIS program provides required academic core courses, computer programming courses: Programming Fundamentals I (CS1), Programming Fundamentals II (CS2), and Programming Fundamentals III (CS3) as defined for the computer programming field-of-study, as well as Database Programming and Advanced Database Programming courses. There is a full mathematics course sequence including Calculus I, II, and Statistical Methods and Probability. The Computer Information Systems program prepares graduates to support organizations by providing practical applications of computer and other technologies, developing customized software and applications that are appropriate to companies in diverse business sectors. A broader range of subject matter is covered, when compared to the Associate in Science in Computer Programming degree. The CIS student will study subject areas such as communications, networking, security, software design, business, and mathematics.
