Fall 2017 Kick-Off Open House Highlighting Norwest Center’s Offerings

Article by: Melinda Eddleman

For residents living in the western part of Nueces County or beyond, driving into Corpus Christi to take college-level courses can be inconvenient and even run up their gas bill. Del Mar College’s (DMC) Northwest Center, located in Calallen, offers credit, noncredit, dual credit and workforce training courses that bring higher education closer to home or work.

On Saturday, July 29, residents can learn more about what’s available at the Northwest Center during a FREE open house designed to showcase the facility and its resources and to encourage individuals to register for fall 2017 offerings. Registration is currently underway. Visit www.delmar.edu/registration.

“The Northwest Center benefits residents in western Nueces County and the surrounding areas by providing the convenience of attending classes near home or work,” says Mario Flores, program coordinator with the College’s Off-Campus Programs. “Students receive the same course benefits offered by Del Mar College on its Corpus Christi campuses, and the courses are delivered in a convenient, accessible manner.”

Billed as a Fall 2017 Kick-Off, the collegiate-themed open house runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Northwest Center is located at 13725 Northwest Blvd. across from Calallen High School. For more information, contact Flores at 361-698-2450 or mflores180@delmar.edu.

Among programs participants can expect to see highlighted are the Health Care and Safety Programs and the Adult Education and Literacy Department (General Education Development or GED program) with the DMC Continuing Education Division and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Program with the Department of Computer Science, Engineering and Advanced Technology. Individuals can even try their hand at driving a truck or operating a crane using simulators that Transportation Training Services and Corporate Services provide for training.

Participants can meet with DMC Recruitment and Outreach representatives to collect more information about admissions and fall registration or even visit the Costal Compass Mobile Unit to complete the admissions process and apply for financial aid. Those who attend the Northwest Center’s Fall 2017 Kick-Off may even meet The Viking.
