During their November monthly meeting, the Del Mar College (DMC) Board of Regents announced the appointment of former Corpus Christi City Secretary Armando Chapa to represent the College on the Board of the Nueces County Tax Appraisal District.
A retired civil servant with more than 30 years’ experience in management and administration, Chapa expressed his keen interest in remaining active in the community on a volunteer basis.
As City Secretary from 1985 to 2014, he managed access and security for municipal documents, maintained fiscal records and served as a city liaison with numerous community organizations.
He also prepared city budgets for consideration, assisted with municipal elections and maintained city documents, charters and municipal codes. Chapa holds a Bachelor and a Master of Arts degree in Psychology.
“The Board is impressed with Mr. Chapa’s credentials and appreciative of his willingness to represent the College and our taxpayers,” stated Trey McCampbell, DMC Board Chair.
General duties of the tax appraisal board include providing services to and representing the property owners and taxpayers of the Del Mar College District.
The Board of Regents’ appointment requires Chapa to 1) attend regularly scheduled meetings, workshops and budget planning sessions of the Appraisal District Board, and 2) keep the College informed in a timely manner about major issues/decisions of the Appraisal District Board.
Local businessman Eugene Bouligny served two terms as the College’s representative on the Tax Appraisal Board.
“The Board appreciates Mr. Bouligny’s service and continued dedication to Del Mar College,” McCampbell added.
Chapa will serve a two-year term commencing January 2018.
