It will also cover handling and disposal of hazardous waste.The Building Maintenance program is designed to teach general maintenance skills in many different crafts. General maintenance mechanics repair and maintain machines, mechanical equipment, buildings, electrical and air conditioning and heating systems. They also maintain and repair specialized equipment and machinery found in cafeterias, laundromats, hospitals, stores, offers, and factories. Typical duties include troubleshooting and fixing faulty electrical switches, repairing air conditioning motors, and unclogging drains.In addition, students develop skills to repair, maintain and test major appliances for energy efficiency and combustion efficiency to insure safety and to meet national energy efficiency standards. Certifications include HVAC Excellence, EPA and Energy Auditing.
